BATON ROUGE, La. - Rhett Gallego kicked a 32-yard field goal on the final play of the game as UAB upset LSU 13-10 on Saturday night.
Gallego's second field goal of the game gave the Blazers (2-1) their first win in four tries against a Southeastern Conference team.
LSU had tied the score 10-all on John Corbello's 35-yard field goal with 2:33 left.
If LSU (2-2) was looking for an easy win on homecoming, the Tigers picked the wrong opponent to schedule between SEC games against Auburn (a loss) and Tennessee (next week). UAB, which moved to Division I-A five years ago and hasn't had a winning season since, came up with one of the biggest wins in the history of the program.
The Blazers held LSU to 263 yards, shutting down the Tigers for nearly three quarters. Tigers quarterback Josh Booty was intercepted four times - once in the end zone - and UAB's defense also caused five fumbles. LSU, under new coach Nick Saban, was called for 13 penalties for 113 yards.
UAB grounded out a 10-0 halftime lead. Jegil Dugger was the workhorse, with 21 carries for 72 yards. The Blazers finished with 178 total yards.
The Blazers took a 3-0 lead four plays after safety Sentell Winston picked up an LSU fumble on Gallego's 29 yard field goal.
Daniel Dixon then capped a 72-yard drive with a with a 24-yard touchdown pass to Leron Little in the second quarter. Dixon finished 8-of-17 for 65 yards and an interception.
LSU broke through in the third quarter on Domanick Davis' 1-yard TD run on fourth down. The score came after Blazers' running back Carl Fair fumbled on UAB's 34. An unsportsmanlike conduct put LSU at midfield, but Davis pounded out 35 yards on the drive.
Booty was 15-of-38 for 156 yards. LaBrandon Toefield had 19 carries for 89 yards for the Tigers.
