Lady Blazers win Classic 85-62 over UT-Martin

Deanna Jackson scored 29 points and pulled down 12 rebounds in earning MVP honors at UAB's Lady Blazer Classic as the host defeated Tennessee-Martin 85-62 to win the tournament.
It was the eighth straight year the Lady Blazers have won the classic. Both UAB and UT-Martin are 3-1 on the year. It was the third straight win for UAB.
Jackson made 12-of-15 shots from the field in recording her fourth double-double in as many games. She also dished out five rebounds and blocked three shots. This is the fourth tournament over the past two years, she has earned MVP honors.
For the game the Blazers shot 60.8 percent from the field for the game. It was consistent performance as they shot 61 percent in the first half and 60.8 percent in the second half. The Blazers outrebounded the Skyhawks 41-20.
UAB pulled away in the late in the first half. With the score tied 26-26 with 4:30 left in the first period, the Lady Blazers finished out the half with a 11-2 run to take a 37-28 halftime lead.
Mia Thrash hit a three-pointer to start the second half and give UAB a 12-point lead that continued to grow.
Natasha Thomas scored 16 points. Shaquetta Rhodes, who joined Jackson on the All-Tournament team, scored 14 points and pulled down eight rebounds. Thrash added 12 points.
UT-Martin's Kelly Pendelton scored 16 points in being named to the All-Tournament team. T.J. Barker added 12 points for the Skyhawks.

CONSOLATION ROUND KANSAS 73, LOUISIANA-MONROE 60
Jaclyn Johnson scored 25 points as Kansas (3-1) pulled away from Louisiana-Monroe (0-3) to win the consolation game of the Lady Blazer Classic 73-60.
Johnson was named to the All-Tournament team for her efforts. She also pulled down nine rebounds. She made 9-of-11 free throws.
The Jayhawks led just 33-30 at the half and just 50-45 with 11:26 remaining in the game. Over the next five minutes KU outscored the Lady Indians 14-6 to take a 64-51 lead with 6:26 remaining. Kansas maintained anywhere from an 11-to-15 point lead the remainder of the game.
Louisiana-Monroe's Terri Butler scored 15 points and had eight rebounds in earning a spot on the All-Tournament team. Danielle Butler also added 15 points.
Selena Scott added 13 points and five assists for Kansas.
