UAB Has C-USA Best 19 Selections on Athlon Sports Preseason Teams

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB football team had a Conference USA best 19 selection named to the 2022 Athlon Sports Preseason All-Conference USA Teams, which were recently released by the publication.
Six Blazers were First Team selection with four on offense and two on defense. Highlighting the offensive selections is UAB's dynamic backfield duo DeWayne McBride and Jermaine Brown Jr., and offensive linemen Sidney Wells and Matthew Trehern.
McBride and Brown Jr. are one of four running back tandems in the nation who return over 2,000 combined rushing yards from last year. McBride ran for 1,371 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2021, while Brown Jr. added 631 rushing yards and seven touchdowns.
Wells enters his fourth year as a starter on the offensive line and was a 2021 Preseason Outland Trophy Watch List nominee. He only played in four games last year and is back after a medical redshirt. Trehern is a three-year starter and a two-time C-USA Honorable Mention selection.
Defensively, linebacker Noah Wilder and cornerback Starling Thomas V were First Team selections. Wilder enters his final year as a Blazer with 228 career tackles and needs just 25 more to crack the top 10 on UAB's career tackles list.
Thomas V missed the entire 2020 season with a knee injury and returned better than ever in 2021. He started every game at corner en route to earning C-USA Honorable Mention honors.
