Two Blazers Set School Records at Harvard Crimson Elite Invitational
2/4/2022 8:35:00 PM | Women's Track & Field
CAMBRIDGE, MA- The UAB track and field team had an outstanding showing today at the Harvard Crimson Elite Invitational. Birthe Franck-Petersen and Kat Duren shattered school records in shot put and the 60m hurdles, respectively. Five other Blazers set personal records. Maira Gauges had marks that placed in the Top 10 all-time list for indoor track in the long jump, high jump, and the pentathlon.
Kat Duren's 8.39 second time in the 60m hurdles is a new school record, and was fourth overall at the event. Franck-Petersen's throw marked the fourth time in her career that she has broken a UAB shot put record.
"We had a very good day all around." Said Coach Kurt Thomas. "We challenged them to be the best version of themselves this weekend and they responded well. The big highlights are Kat and Birthe's school records in the hurdles and shot put. Kat was in heats with some of the best hurdlers in the country and came away with a school record and fast time. The Pentathletes competed well and came away with lots of event PRs. Kaylie Wright long jumped well and Nia Hill high jumped well. Kathleen Schellman and Britney Johnson raced a good mile race. Lisa Petkov had a good PR in the 60m hurdles. It was great to see Taylor Jones race again after a long injury recovery. We still have work to do tomorrow at Boston U, so we can't get satisfied yet."
The track and field team will be in action again tomorrow in the Boston University Scarlet and White.
