BIRMINGHAM – Junior running back DeWayne McBride is running at such an elite level that he has established himself as a front runner for major postseason awards, including the Doak Walker which is annually presented to the nation's top collegiate running back.
McBride is currently leading the entire nation in rushing yards per game at 155.6. In five games so far (missed season opener due to illness), McBride has compiled 778 rushing yards and 11 rushing touchdowns, while averaging 6.7 yards per carry.
He is just one of four running backs in the nation to rush for over 100 yards in every game this year, and dating back to last season, he has gone over 100 yards rushing in nine of his last 10 contests.
The Starke, Fla., native has scored a rushing touchdown in 12 straight games and during that span he has 23 total rushing touchdowns. In 24 career games, he has 28 rushing touchdowns.
Additionally, McBride is the nation's active career leader in yards per carry (7.1) and is third nationally in career rushing yards per game (107.8).
Behind his Joe Moore Award nominated offensive line, McBride has the national spotlight this Friday night against a WKU team that leads Conference USA in rushing defense. Kickoff is scheduled for 7 p.m. CST on CBS Sports Network.
