BIRMINGHAM – Softball season is almost here! There is so much to be excited about in Birmingham as the UAB softball team opens its schedule up on Feb. 12 in Troy, Ala. The team welcomes nine newcomers to the roster for the 2021 season. UABSports.com will introduce you to these new Blazers and provide unique opportunities to get to know them.
Today's 'Meet the Blazers' profile features a sophomore utility, Taylor Watford.

Height: 5-5
Hometown: Lamar, S.C.
High School: Hartsville
What is your favorite thing about your hometown?
TW: "Just being super close to my family and being able to be around them while home."
What has been your favorite part of Birmingham so far?
TW: "Getting to meet new people and make new friends."
When did you start playing softball and why?
TW: "I started playing softball when I was seven because playing softball and baseball was something that everyone in my family did all the time."
What is your favorite softball memory?
TW: "It was my last home game of my senior year and I hit a walk of home run to send us to the next game in the state playoffs."
Why did you choose UAB?
TW: "I just really liked the school and thought it would be a good fit for me."
Do you have any siblings? If so, what are their names and how old are they?
TW: "I have a younger sister named Logan who is 17."
Who is your biggest inspiration?
TW: "My mom because she is always there for me. She works hard at everything she does, and she never sugarcoats anything. She always tells me when I need to do better."
Do you remember what you wanted to be when you grew up?
TW: "I always wanted to be a coach."
What do you want to be now?
TW: "I still want to be a softball coach in the future."
What are you majoring in?
TW: "I am a general studies major."
Do you have a favorite quote?
TW: "It's hard to beat someone that never gives up."
What is your favorite TV show to binge watch?
TW: "The Vampire Diaries."
What do you like to do in your free time?
TW: "Play with my PS4."
What is your favorite meal/food?
TW: "I love Mexican food."
If you could live anywhere in the world where would you live?
TW: "On the lake."
What is your favorite book?
TW: "Harry Potter."
What are you looking forward to most in your first softball season at UAB?
TW: "Having a good season with my teammates and winning a conference championship."
