Previewing the Spring Season for No. 5 UAB Men’s Golf

BIRMINGHAM – After playing to an undefeated fall record of 29-0-0 and capturing three straight tournament titles, the No. 5 UAB men's golf team gears up for its championship season which begins on Feb. 14 in Mobile.
THE RANKING:
UAB enters the spring with its highest ranking in school history at No. 5. The Blazers won all three tournaments they played at the Jim Rivers Intercollegiate, Scenic City Classic and the Graeme McDowell Intercollegiate. According to the final golfstat.com ranking of the fall on Nov. 17, 2020, UAB rounded out the top five along with No. 1 Vanderbilt, No. 2 Pepperdine, No. 3 Georgia and No. 4 Tennessee.
Individually, Nick Robillard leads five Blazers who rank inside the top 125. Robillard had a tremendous fall and finds himself ranked No. 13 nationally. He placed within the top five in all three tournaments and won the Jim Rivers.
Reigning Conference USA Freshman of the Year Khavish Varadan ranks No. 64 nationally, followed by No. 89 William Walker III, No. 114 Drew Mathers and No. 121 Ethan Hagood.
THE SCHEDULE:
UAB will face some of the country's top competition this spring. The Blazers open the slate at the Mobile Bay Intercollegiate hosted by South Alabama from Feb. 14-16.
Following that, UAB squares off with Ole Miss on Sunday, Feb. 21 for a head-to-head competition at the Rebel Match Play. The Blazers don't play again until March 15 when UAB heads to the Tiger Invitational hosted by Auburn.
UAB's annual trip to The Hayt in Ponte Verda, Fla. follows, and then the Blazers close out the regular season by co-hosting the Shoal Creek Invitational with Auburn April 5-7.
The Conference USA Championship is scheduled for April 26-29 in Texarkana, Ark., and NCAA Regionals are slated for May 16-19 at one of six predetermined sites around the country. Arizona State will host NCAA National Championship in Tempe from May 29-June 2.
