UAB Men’s Golf to Compete in 41st Schenkel Invitational

BIRMINGHAM – The UAB men's golf team will play its second tournament of the spring this Friday-Sunday, March 13-15, at the 41st Schenkel Invitational hosted by Georgia Southern.
The tournament will be played at Forest Heights Country Club and features 18 holes each day. The course plays par 72, 6,962 yards.
UAB is one of 13 teams participating, along with Army, Campbell, College of Charleston, Georgia Southern, Georgia State, Kentucky, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi State, Notre Dame, Troy and Virginia Tech.
The field has seven top 100 teams participating, led by No. 16 Notre Dame. UAB is the second highest ranked team at No. 40, while Campbell (56) Georgia Southern (63), Mississippi State (71), College of Charleston (72) and Virginia Tech (86) also find themselves inside the top 100.
Coming off a fourth place finish at the Mobile Sports Authority Intercollegiate, the Blazers look to continue their momentum towards the postseason. UAB shot -22 as a team in Mobile and redshirt sophomore John Snoddy was named Conference USA Golfer of the Week for pacing the Blazers.
Snoddy shot a collegiate best -8, which was highlighted by shooting a four-under 68 in two of his three rounds.
Every player in UAB's lineup has a season stroke average under 73, led by William Walker III (70.3) and Murray Naysmith (70.8). Both of them have finished at or under par in all six tournaments this season.
Along with Walker III, Naysmith and Snoddy, Ben Reichert and Khavish Varadan round out the lineup for the Blazers this weekend. Ethan Haygood will also compete as an individual.
