Pair of Blazers Land on NCAA Top 150 Hitters List

BIRMINGHAM – Redshirt senior outfielder Zack Davis and fellow senior outfielder Colton Schultz have been named to D1 Baseball's top 150 Hitters list as announced by the NCAA. Davis received the top mark at No. 50 overall, while Schultz slid into the rankings at No. 118.
In conjunction with the NCAA, D1 Baseball created the list based on plate discipline, hit ability and game power from the 2019 season on a 100-point scale. With those attributes measured by data analytics, Davis chalked up an overall score of 83.2 for the highest tally in C-USA while Schultz scored just behind at 81.2.
"It's always nice to have our players honored with preseason and post season accolades. We feel we have a talented group of position players," said assistant head coach Perry Roth. "Any of them could have been honored, but there aren't any more deserving than Colton and Zack. Not only are they two of the more talented hitters in our conference, this recognition shows they are two of the more talented hitters in the country. They are also great leaders and outstanding teammates."
The rankings among the nation's best come after the now senior outfield duo led the Green and Gold at the plate last year. Davis was UAB's best in multiple categories after batting .330 with 62 hits, 15 doubles, three triples, eight homeruns and 48 RBI for a .569 slugging percentage in 50 starts. Not far behind Davis was Schultz, leading the team in hits with 65 after posting a .316 batting average with 12 doubles, three triples, six homeruns and 43 RBI in 54 starts.
Davis was also recently selected to the Conference USA Preseason All-Conference Team as UAB was slated to finish eighth in the league. The Blazers will look to pick up where they left off a season ago as they won nine of their final 13 games, including wins over Auburn and Southern Miss. A total of 20 players, including regular starters at six positions in the field, will don the green and gold once again with 16 fresh faces also set to appear in 2020.
The Blazers are scheduled to open the year with a home series against Notre Dame Feb. 14-16. The first two games will be played at Regions Field with the series finale being held at Young Memorial Field
The 2020 UAB Baseball schedule features 34 home games, including 23 at Regions Field. UAB will also host three SEC opponents in Auburn, Alabama and Mississippi State. The Tigers and Bulldogs are each a year removed from advancing into the 2019 College World Series.
Fans may secure baseball season tickets by purchasing the 2020 Gold Card for $65.
