BIRMINGHAM - The Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex (BJCC) received approval from the Birmingham Design Review Committee (DRC) on the external materials for the new Protective Stadium Wednesday morning.
Following Wednesday's approval, the BJCC and Protective Stadium project partners will work with Populous, the stadium's lead architect, to put the finishing touches on the final designs. The BJCC will present final designs to the public at the September 18th board meeting.
Today's DRC approval also enables the BJCC to begin preparing a comprehensive construction package to put forward for public bid later this year.
"We appreciate the Design Review Committee's service, ensuring that construction and renovation projects meet the quality of design that our city deserves," said Tad Snider, Executive Director and CEO, BJCC Authority. "We're pleased to have their approval on the external materials for the stadium and are eager to move forward with next steps."
The DRC unanimously approved the conceptual designs for Protective Stadium, presented for vote on June 12th of this year. After today's external materials approval, the DRC's next involvement in the project will be to review and vote on the Protective Stadium signage package. The review of the signage package is expected to take place later this fall. The Protective Stadium signage package will include wayfinding and external signage visible from the exterior of the building and in common areas throughout the stadium site.
It is important to know that both seating and parking options at Protective Stadium will be allocated based on the Blazer Boosters Priority Points System. If you haven't already done so, UAB Athletics strongly encourage you to commit to season tickets for the 2019 season and continue to build your priority by becoming a Blazer Boosters member.
