BIRMINGHAM- UAB women's basketball alum Deanna Kuzmanic has been named one of the remaining 148 in consideration for the 2019 NCAA Woman of the Year Award.
The NCAA Woman of the Year award recognizes female student-athletes for excellence in academics, athletics, community service and leadership.
Nominees for NCAA Woman of the Year are selected from a pool of 585 women nominated by their universities. They represent college athletics from 20 sports over all three NCAA divisions.
Kuzmanic was a four-year letter winner for the Blazers from 2015-19. She started every game in her career earning two Conference USA All-Conference Team honors and C-USA All-Freshman Team honors in 2015-16.
Off the court, Kuzmanic was a four-time C-USA Academic Medal recipient and three-time C-USA All-Academic team earner. She graduated from UAB in the spring with a Bachelor of Science in mathematics and a minor in STEM education and held a 3.94 GPA.
In the community, Kuzmanic completed over 115 hours of community service where she served as a reading mentor to elementary schoolers in the Birmingham area. The Mount Prospect, Ill. native was also a Top 30 finalist for the Senior CLASS award last season.
"Deanna has always represented UAB and our women's basketball program as well as you possibly can," said women's basketball head coach Randy Norton. "She is a great role model for young women and anyone that is around her. She truly pursues excellence in all areas of her life."
The Top 30 Woman of the Year honorees, comprising 10 women from each division, will be named by the Woman of the Year selection committee in September. The pool will then be narrowed to nine finalists—three from each division—in October.
The 2019 Woman of the Year will be named, and the Top 30 honorees will be celebrated, at the annual banquet in Indianapolis on Oct. 20.
