Abby Carlile Named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week

FRISCO, Texas – Sophomore Abby Carlile has been named the Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced on Monday.
Carlile led UAB to a 3-1 record over the weekend with wins over Central Arkansas, Florida A&M and UT-Martin at the Skyhawk Invitational. The outside hitter played in all 15 sets over the four match weekend, racking up 54 kills while hitting .372 percent.
"Abby has been working extremely hard to improve her volleyball IQ," head coach Amy Pauly said. "Her strength and physicality has always been there, but I believe her focus on becoming a more intelligent attacker is what allowed her to have such a successful weekend."
The Southlake, Texas native has played a pivotal role in the UAB offense through the first two weekends of the season, leading the Blazers with 70 kills and is hitting .314 percent. She is averaging 3.04 kills per set and has added 22 digs and 20 blocks for the Green and Gold.
UAB plays at Alabama State on Tuesday, Sept. 4 at 7 p.m. before heading to Clemson S.C. on Sept. 7-8 to compete in the Big Orange Bash.
