BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – A schedule that includes 11 guaranteed tournaments, three of which are in Birmingham and one in Hawaii, highlight the 2018-19 slate for the UAB men's golf team.
The schedule is broken into five tournaments in the fall and at least six in the spring, with the potential to play up to eight spring competitions including the NCAA Regional and NCAA National Championship Tournaments.
"We are excited to tackle another very challenging schedule this season," head coach Mike Wilson said. "There is a great blend of local and national tournaments which will give our players the opportunity to succeed on familiar courses while playing on the road in some of the top tournaments in the country."
As they did last season, the Blazers open the year at the Wisconsin Badger Invitational, Sept. 9-11, in Madison Wis. They then return home to hold The Shoal Creek Intercollegiate hosted by Graeme McDowell Sept. 24-25 in Birmingham.
UAB welcomes a field of Georgia Southern, High Point, Kansas, Kennesaw State, Liberty, Lipscomb, Louisiana Tech, North Florida, Ole Miss, Samford, South Alabama, Texas A&M and Vanderbilt to Shoal Creek.
The Blazers will remain in Birmingham for their next tournament on Oct. 9-10 at the Jerry Pate Invitational hosted by Alabama which will be played at Old Overton.
The following week will see UAB travel to C-USA foe Louisiana Tech (Oct. 14-16), and will then have a week off before concluding the fall season in Hawaii Oct. 28-30.
UAB resumes the second half of its schedule in Arizona on Feb. 23-25 as Loyola University of Maryland will host the Loyola Intercollegiate in Goodyear, Ariz.
It is then back-to-back weeks of playing in familiar tournaments at the Palmetto Intercollegiate (March 11-12) and the Schenkel Intercollegiate (March 16-18). UAB participated in both of these tournaments last year, while this will be the eight-consecutive year playing in the Schenkel.
The Hayt hosted by the University of North Florida follows, which is set for March 31-April 1, and the Blazers will then conclude the regular season back in Birmingham at Shoal Creek which will be hosted by Auburn University.
The Conference USA Tournament returns to Texarkana, Ark. for a ninth-straight year and is set to be played April 22-25.
NCAA Regionals will be hosted in six locations across the United States May 9-13, while the 2019 NCAA National Championship will be played at the University of Arkansas, May 24-29.
The Blazers return four of their five players who won stroke play at the 2018 Conference USA Championship, and brings back eight letterwinners from last year's team. For more information on UAB men's golf, follow @UAB_MGOLF on Twitter and Instagram.
