NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Former UAB baseball standout James Naile has been voted into the Minor League Baseball Triple-A All-Star game set for July 11 at 6:30 p.m. in Columbus, Ohio.
Naile is a member of the Nashville Sounds where he carries a 5-6 record with a 3.93 ERA in 15 starts this season. The right-hander has logged 87 innings of work with 55 strikeouts while holding hitters to a .285 average.
"We're thrilled for James," head coach Brian Shoop said. "We're so proud and excited for him as he inches closer and closer to the Big Leagues. Coach Josh Hopper and Coach Perry Roth got to see him pitch recently and they were thrilled to be in attendance as he had a great outing that night. He's a great person with a bright person and we think he a legitimate shot to make it."
The Charleston, Mo., native was a standout on the mound for the Blazers from 2013-15. He tied the UAB single-season record for wins in 2015 when he collected 10, while compiling a 2.63 ERA. He recorded 10 quality starts in 16 tries in his final campaign and allowed one run or less in nine outings. Additionally, he held hitters to a .196 mark that season, and ranks second in UAB history in career era (3.28) and fourth in wins (17).
Festivities for the All-Star game will begin on Monday, July 9 with the Home Run Derby and Players' Skills Challenge. Gates for the game on Wednesday will open at 5 p.m. and the contest will be streamed live on MLB Network. All of the action is set to take place at Huntington Park, home of the Cleveland Indians' Columbus Cippers.
