Letters From Mark Ingram: Homecoming Festivities and Much More

Dear Blazer Nation,
We've had a busy fall semester so far and have a lot of exciting events coming up. The football team is 3-1 with two road games ahead at Louisiana Tech and Rice. The Blazers then return to Birmingham for Homecoming versus North Texas on Oct. 20. There is always a lot going on, but here's a look at the UAB Athletics calendar for Homecoming week:
Just to highlight a few of the events above, on Thursday night, Oct. 18, UAB Athletics is hosting its annual Hoops Tipoff Event at Bartow Arena and it's going to be a very exciting evening of men's and women's basketball in Birmingham.
Men's basketball is playing the University of Georgia in a charity game to support Red Cross disaster relief efforts. Tickets are only $10 and should be purchased in advance. If you are a season ticket holder, this is NOT a part of your season ticket package, so please be sure to call the ticket office and order your tickets TODAY by calling (205) 975-UAB1.
This will also be your first look at the 2018-19 women's basketball team and an opportunity to recognize their C-USA regular-season championship from a season ago. The women's basketball banner celebration will happen at halftime of the men's game vs. Georgia.
That following Saturday, the football team will be taking on North Texas at 6:30 p.m. This will be a critical West Division matchup in the conference and we need everyone there to cheer on the Blazers. Our attendance has been great so far, so let's keep it going and show our Blazer pride during Homecoming Week.
I want to thank everyone who made last Friday's volleyball match vs. Marshall one of the best atmospheres we have ever seen at UAB. First year head coach Amy Pauly has the Blazers playing great and they have two home matches this coming weekend against UTEP (Friday, Oct. 5 at 7 p.m.) and UTSA (Sunday, Oct. 7 at 1 p.m.).
I also want to thank the city of Birmingham for their generosity in helping UAB Athletics raise money and awareness for the Mike Slive Foundation. We concluded Prostate Cancer Awareness Month with an on-field check presentation to the Mike Slive Foundation last Saturday and are proud to partner with such a fantastic foundation. Together, we can help put an end to Prostate Cancer.
Our men's golf team is playing in the Jerry Pate Intercollegiate at Old Overton this coming Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 8-9. They don't have many events in Birmingham, so go out and support them at one of the nicest golf clubs the Magic City has to offer.
We have a few facilities projects underway that are making good progress. Our track and field complex and BBVA Compass Field expansion project are moving quickly and will be completed in December. The new beach volleyball courts have just begun and will also be finished by the end of the year. All three of these facilities will allow our teams to compete at the highest level every year. These exciting projects are possible through the generosity of our fans and donors and we thank you for your continued support.
And finally, please keep Friday, Nov. 2 on your radar as we will be inducting four more Blazer greats into the UAB Athletics Hall of Fame. It's a special event and something you'll want to be part of. The room is filling up quickly, so call (205) 996-9969 and reserve your seat or table.
Thanks again for all you do to support our student-athletes, coaches and our teams…We hope to see you soon!
Go Blazers!
