Zack Bryant Named Conference USA Freshman of the Week

IRVING, Texas – On the heels of leading UAB to double-digit victories over Southern Miss and Louisiana Tech, Blazer guard Zack Bryant was selected as the Conference USA Freshman of the Week, the league office announced on Tuesday.
Bryant averaged 15.0 points, 3.5 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game while shooting 54.5 percent from the field and 40.0 percent from three-point range in helping UAB extend its winning streak to four.
A native of Hastings, Fla., Bryant opened the week with a career-high 19 points to go along with two rebounds and two assists in an 86-75 victory over Southern Miss. Bryant followed that performance with 11 points and a career-best five rebounds as UAB defeated Louisiana Tech 74-62.
Bryant becomes the first Blazer to be tabbed the Conference USA Freshman of the Week since William Lee earned the distinction in 2015.
Overall, Bryant is second on the team with 13.8 points and 3.0 assists per game, which ranks him second in Conference USA in scoring and first in assists among freshmen.
Bryant and the Blazers return to the hardwood Thursday at 8 p.m. with a trip to WKU that will be televised on CBS Sports Network.
