BOWLING GREEN, Ky. – The UAB women’s basketball team completes its final regular-season road swing of 2015-16 as it travels to Bowling Green, Kentucky, to face off against the second-ranked team in C-USA, WKU. The Blazers and Lady Toppers are slated to tip at 2 p.m. at E.A. Diddle Arena.
UAB (13-13, 6-9) is coming off a hard-fought 73-65 loss at Marshall. In the loss, four Blazers tallied double figures in a balanced offensive attack. Senior guard Chelsee Black became UAB’s 18th all-time leading scorer as she netted 13 points on her way to 1,292 career points. The Bessemer, Alabama, native is now just 8 points shy of 17th place in the Blazers’ record books.
Senior forward Brittany Winborne earned her 17th career double-double with 12 points and 11 rebounds. The Baltimore, Maryland, native averages 10.9 boards per night, the eighth-best in a single season in UAB history.
Freshman guard Deanna Kuzmanic dropped four 3s in the game as she ranks seventh in the Blazers’ single-season history with 70 treys. She is just one triple shy of sixth place in program history.
Winborne and the all-time blocks leader in a single season and blocks leader all, senior forward Kayla Anderson, both moved up in the single-season blocks records. Winborne ranks ninth in UAB history with 37 blocks, while Anderson, who already holds the record, moved into fourth place with 39 blocks this season.
The Blazers remain atop the league standings in scoring defense, as they limit their foes to a mere 58.0 points per contest. On the glass, the Blazers own a +7.0 rebound margin, the top mark in the league and the 46th-best in the nation.
WKU (21-5, 12-3) welcomes UAB to its home court with an 11-1 home record at E.A. Diddle, including Thursday night’s 62-51 win over Middle Tennessee. The Lady Toppers’ lone home loss came to C-USA leader UTEP, 85-78, earlier this month.
The Lady Toppers are led by a trio of players, including Tashia Brown, Kendall Noble and Ivy Brown. Tashia Brown and Noble pour in 17.9 and 17.5 points per night, respectively, while Ivy Brown chips in 12.0. Against the Blue Raiders, Noble poured in a game-best 23 points, shooting 7-of-13 from the floor and 9-of-11 from the charity stripe. Tashia Brown was the only other Lady Hilltopper in double figures as she totaled 13. On the glass, Ivy Brown secured nine boards.
UAB and WKU are meeting for the 18th time in program history. The Lady Toppers hold a 14-4 lead, including a 6-2 lead in games played in Bowling Green. The Blazers’ last win on the road against the Lady Toppers was just over 15 years ago.
