HATTIESBURG, Miss. -- UAB's baseball game vs. Southern Miss in the Conference USA Championship at Pete Taylor Park was suspended late Wednesday night/Thursday morning due to torrential downpours and lightning in the area.
The game began at 10:17 p.m. Wednesday and was called in the eighth inning at 1:34 a.m.
The Blazers had a 3-0 lead over the Golden Eagles as the teams got ready to take the field for the eighth inning, but lightning in the area for the second time in the game brought the tarp out and delayed for a second time. Torrential downpours eventually ensued, forcing the suspension of the contest.
The two clubs will return to Pete Taylor Park to complete the final two innings following the completion of the 9 a.m. game Thursday morning. The loser of UAB/Southern Miss will then directly follow and play Old Dominion. UTSA and FIU will play the winners bracket game at 4 p.m., followed by the winner of UAB/Southern Miss vs. Florida Atlantic at 7:30 p.m.
