BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- The UAB baseball team will be in action at Young Memorial Field the next two days, starting Tuesday with a 6:30 p.m. CT midweek contest against Kennesaw State.
Then on Wednesday, the Blazers will complete their halted game with Mississippi State at 6 p.m. CT. The game was stopped because of rain on March 9 and will resume Wednesday in the top of the sixth inning with UAB leading 4-3. Admission will be free for the conclusion of the game.
UAB (18-13, 6-3 C-USA) enters Tuesday's contest against Kennesaw State coming off a series victory at Houston over the weekend. The Blazers held the Cougars to just two runs over the first two games of the series behind strong pitching performances from Dillon Napoleon and Ryan Woolley, but Houston spoiled the Blazers hopes for a sweep by scoring in the bottom of the eighth on Sunday.
John Frost led UAB at the plate with two home runs, five RBI and five runs scored in the three games at Houston. He now leads UAB with 22 RBI on the year. Jamal Austin's .368 average continues to top the team, while Patrick Palmeiro leads the squad with 15 extra-base hits.
UAB will send David Hayes (0-1, 5.34 ERA) to the mound Tuesday to match up with Kennesaw State's Sean Fream (1-2, 6.12 ERA).
The Owls (19-15, 8-6 Atlantic Sun) are coming off three losses over the weekend at 25th-ranked Stetson. Ronnie Freeman leads the Kennesaw State regulars with a .375 batting average, while Andy Chriscaden owns a team-best eight home runs and 40 RBI.
Mississippi State (21-11, 5-7 SEC) dropped two out of three games to No. 4 Florida over the weekend. Jarrod Parks paces the Bulldogs with a .382 batting average, while Jonathan Ogden's six home runs and 27 RBI are both team-highs.
