BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- After a one-day breather from the practice field, the UAB football team returned to the gridiron on Monday to begin the second week of camp.
"All through practice it was back and forth," UAB head coach Neil Callaway said. "The offense would do some good things, then the defense would do some good things. Overall, I thought it was a good practice."
Callaway noted that special teams was an emphasis during Monday's practice. While he was pleased with the effort, the fourth-year head coach knows the execution on special teams needs to improve.
"We do have more people to work with, so that's a lot better, but it all starts with the kicker putting the ball where we want it," Callaway said. "We've got to do a better job of that."
Monday's practice also gave Callaway a chance to narrow his decision on a potential starting quarterback.
"In no particular order, our top three will be Bryan Ellis, Emmanuel Taylor and David Isabelle," Callaway said. "We're at a point where we've got to start whittling it down. You just can't rep five quarterbacks and get enough reps."
The Blazers continue camp on Tuesday as they inch closer to the season opener against Florida Atlantic on Sept. 2. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. CT at Legion Field.
