BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team went through its final practice Thursday afternoon before heading off to take on the Owls of Florida Atlantic on Saturday. The team went through a short 12-period practice in shorts and helmets.
"Everything we worked on was for the Florida Atlantic game," said head coach Neil Callaway. "We worked on a bunch of different situations. I thought it went really well."
The light practice wrapped up a week where Callaway continued to see improvement.
"We had a real good week of practice," Callaway said. "Tuesday was a hard work day for us. Wednesday we scaled it back and it was good. Today was light, but also good."
Heading into the weekend the coach did notice some areas of concern when looking at FAU.
"They are a physical football team," said Callaway. "They do a very job of running and throwing the football. We are going to have to be ready to play."
Callaway also named quarterback Joe Webb, defensive end Joe Happe and wide receiver Frantrell Forrest as the captains for Saturday's matchup.
Kickoff for Saturday's game is scheduled for 3:00 p.m, CDT.
Saturday's UAB/FAU contest will be carried on the Blazers ISP Sports Network. The game can be heard locally on WWMM 100.5 FM radio in Birmingham.
