BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB Blazers built a 7-3 lead against Jacksonville State at Young Memorial Field Tuesday night but with second baseman Nick Crawford at the plate with two on and two outs in the bottom of the fifth, the lights went out, forcing the game to be suspended. The game will be picked up where it left off on Wednesday, May 7 at Young Memorial Field beginning at 4:00 p.m.
The nine-inning game scheduled at the field between the two teams previously on May 7 will be played following the resumption of Tuesday night's contest on that date.
Jacksonville State plated a run in the top of the first and held the one-run lead until the bottom of the third when the Blazers drew a pair of walks to begin the inning and then a double down the left field line by left fielder Phil Bell gave UAB a 2-1 lead. Bell was later driven home on a ground out by center fielder Cody McMurry.
First baseman Ryan Keedy also scored in the inning on a single to first base by third baseman Luke Stewart to give the Blazers a 4-1 lead.
Jacksonville State came back to cut the Blazer lead to 4-3 in the top of the fourth when, with two on, a single to left field by third baseman Matt McLaughlin scored first baseman Steven Leach and then right fielder Clay Whittemore scored on the play when Bell mishandled the ball in left for an error.
The Blazers added three more runs in the fourth to pull ahead for the 7-3 lead.
UAB will play at Samford on Wednesday at 6:00 p.m.
