BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - James Oliver, a right-handed pitcher on the UAB baseball team, has been named this week's UAB Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Oliver owns a record of 1-1 on the mound for the Blazers this season, while also excelling in the classroom.
Oliver has appeared in six games and has made one start this season. He has held opponents to a .241 batting average and recorded five strikeouts.
In 2007, Oliver led the UAB staff with 22 relief appearances.
Oliver is a biology major at UAB.
The Blazers, 6-13 (0-3 C-USA), will host five home games this week. On Tuesday, UAB will play host to Troy at 6:30 p.m. at Young Memorial Field before welcoming in Alabama A&M at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday. This weekend, Tulane will visit for a three-game Conference USA series.
