BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB women's basketball team will play the final game of its regular season Saturday when it hosts the Southern Miss Golden Eagles. The Conference USA matchup, which will also serve as Senior Day at Bartow Arena, is scheduled for a 2:00 p.m. CT start time.
Saturday will mark the 44th meeting between the two programs, with Southern Miss holding a 29-14 advantage in the all-time series. The Golden Eagles have won four straight over the Blazers, including a 77-64 Southern Miss victory earlier this season in Hattiesburg, Miss.
UAB enters the game with an overall record of 14-14 and a 10-5 mark in C-USA that puts the Blazers in third place in the league standings. UAB is guaranteed a top four seed and a first round bye in next week's C-USA Tournament in Orlando, Fla. A win over Southern Miss would ensure a No. 3 seed for the Blazers.
Senior guard/forward Diamond Rogers paces UAB in points (16.9 ppg), rebounding (8.3 rpg), assists (3.4 apg) and blocks (16).
Senior guard Crystal McFadden is putting up 13.5 ppg and grabbing 5.3 rpg, while junior guard Britney Jones is scoring 12.3 ppg and leading the team in steals with 2.7 per outing.
Southern Miss is sitting in a tie with East Carolina for fifth place in the conference at 7-8, while holding an overall record of 16-12.
Sophomore forward Pauline Love leads Southern Miss with 17.0 points and 11.0 rebounds per outing. Sophomore center Stephanie Helgeson is adding 12.1 ppg and a team-best 74 blocks this season.
Junior guard Andrea Barber is scoring 5.8 ppg and pacing the Golden Eagles in both assists (6.4 apg) and steals (1.6 spg).
Prior to tip-off, UAB will honor its four seniors, Christon Ingram, Crystal McFadden, LaKitha Murray and Diamond Rogers, who will be playing their final game in Bartow Arena.
