The Blazers round out the weekend Sunday afternoon against No. 24 Auburn.
Tulsa Preview: UAB opens the Auburn Tiger Invitational against fellow Conference USA foe Tulsa. The Golden Hurricane (1-4) was picked to finish second in the 2007 C-USA preseason poll. Before Tulsa won the last meeting, UAB had won three consecutive meetings. The Blazers hold a 4-2 advantage in the series. Against the Golden Hurricane the Blazers are 2-1 at home, 1-0 away and 1-1 at neutral sites. Catcher Ashlee Lubniewski is leading the way for Tulsa, batting .500 with a homerun and four RBI.
Facing Notre Dame: The Blazers will face the Fighting Irish for the second time in program history. Notre Dame won the first meeting 9-1 at Chattanooga, Tenn. in 2001. The Fighting Irish will open their season at the Auburn Tiger Invitational against Auburn on Friday afternoon.
Against Tennessee Tech: UAB will take on the Golden Eagles for the second time in two weeks. Tennessee Tech (2-2) beat the Blazers 8-2 at the Georgia State First Pitch Classic last Sunday and has won two consecutive games against UAB. The Blazers are 0-2 at home and 2-1 at neutral sites against the Golden Eagles. Second baseman Kristina Dobbs leads Tennessee Tech offensively, hitting .429 with six hits, including two doubles and a triple.
Round Two Against Virginia Tech: After facing Virginia Tech (3-1) for the first time in history last weekend at the Georgia State First Pitch Classic, the Blazers look to make it two in a row over the Hokies. Jennifer Nelson held the Hokies to one run on three hits and struck out nine. For Virginia Tech, third baseman Charisse Mariconda leads the team, batting .400 a homerun and six RBI. Mariconda is slugging .900.
Auburn Preview: The No. 24 Auburn Tigers (2-5) have had the Blazers' number, winning the last five meetings between the two squads. UAB's only two wins against the Tigers have come at Auburn in 2000 and 2003. The Tigers are led by pitcher Holly Currie, batting .286 with six hits and two RBI. Currie (2-2) also tossed a no-hitter in Auburn's last outing against Georgia State on Wednesday.
