NASSAU, Bahamas ----- The UAB men's basketball team is on a foreign tour in the Bahamas from Sept. 1-4. Throughout the weekend, a player from the team will write a diary consisting of the day's events. The second diary entry is from senior guard Maurice Gibbs, who wrote his thoughts during Saturday's stay to the Bahamas and the Blazers first game during the trip.

"Hi everybody, this is your boy "Mo Gibbs" checking in with you from the Bahamas. Today was a long day; we got up to eat breakfast this morning which me and my roommate Thurston (Rawls) was late for because our managers called us late for the wake up call. After rushing to get something to eat, we went to the gym to go over some of our game stuff and to get some shooting in. The morning practice went pretty good as I thought it would.
After practice we got on to the bus and traveled back to the hotel, which is one of the best hotels you could ever stay in. Everything here is great!! After arriving back at the hotel around 11 a.m., we got a little down time. Me being me, I got in the shower and laid down for a while, because we still have to get up and go to our pre game meal at 2:30 p.m. After resting our bodies a while, we got up and go to pre game which wasn't too bad. We ate pretty good and had some more down time so me and a couple of my teammates walked around the hotel grounds to go look at the sharks and fish for awhile.

I got back to my room to get off my feet, because our bus was scheduled to leave at 4:30 p.m. and we had a game to get prepared for. We got to the room and relaxed awhile then got dressed and ready for the game. The game was scheduled for 6 p.m., but was delayed because of a big thunderstorm that knocked the power out all over the island. We eventually got to play at around 7 p.m, which wasn't too bad. The game went well we won by a nice margin of points. We played well - we just got to do the little things that make great teams great.
All in all, this has been a great experience and a lot of fun at the same time. We got back on the bus and went back to our hotel where we ate pizza and watched our football team do their thing. It was a great game but even though we didn't pull it through, we still know who the best team is... "Go Blazers"!! Now I `m now about to go to bed, so peace out and God bless.

Before I do that, I want to thank God first and send shots out to my beautiful mother, grandmother, brothers, sisters, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and all my friends. I love all ya'll with my heart thanks for everything, last and not least to my boo Ms. Candace."
The Blazers will play the their second and final game during their stay in the Bahamas on Sunday afternoon. Check back with uabsports.com for more player diaries and game recaps.
