BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ---- The UAB football team went through a pair of workouts here Thursday -- a morning session in full pads and an afternoon practice in shorts -- as the date of the Blazers' season-opening game at Oklahoma is now just a little over two weeks away.
Head coach Watson Brown was pleased with Thursday's sessions, especially the enthusiasm his team displayed in the morning practice.
"I was very impressed with the practice this morning," Brown said following the team's session in full pads. "I think we are making a little more progress. Anytime I see them coming after each other the way they did today, it's good. We can correct the other things. I thought the attitude was real good today."
The Blazers have not yet entered their specific game preparations for the fifth-ranked Sooners with the contest a couple weeks away. Still, Brown said he is starting to sense the opener is just around the corner. "It's getting closer," he said. " I can feel it. We're a little over two weeks away from playing maybe the best team in the country."
The Blazers will return to the practice field Friday for a single session in shorts before they hold their second scrimmage on Saturday at Legion Field.
The Sept. 2 game with Oklahoma is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. and the contest will be nationally-televised on TBS.
The radio coverage can be heard on the Blazers ISP Sports Network, beginning at 4:30 p.m. CST. Birmingham listeners can follow all the action on WYDE 101.1 FM, and WIQR 1410 AM in Montgomery.
