GREENVILLE, N.C. -- The UAB women's golf team takes aim at the Conference USA Women's Golf Championship this week in Greenville, N.C. The Blazers compete in the 54- hole C-USA Championships Sunday through Tuesday at the par-72, 6,221-yard Ironwood Country Club.
Kim Wilcox's club is coming off an eighth place finish at Southern Miss's Lady Eagle Classic in Hattiesburg, Miss., last week despite not playing with a full roster. Junior Martha Hudson sat out that tournament to rest her surgically- repaired left shoulder in preparation for the C-USA tournament this week.
"This is what we've been working toward," Wilcox said. "We haven't had quite the final push we were hoping for, but we've gotten steadily better. We're confident and have nothing to lose going in, so we'll see where that takes us."
Freshman Christina Wentworth heads into the league championships fresh off two straight top-four finishes, including individual medalist honors at the Cincinnati Spring Invitational. Wentworth was named Conference USA co-Golfer of the Week after the victory. She was tied for fourth at the Southern Miss Lady Eagle Invitational last week.
Janey Deimling recorded a top-10 finish with a ninth place tie in the Southern Miss Invitational last week. She and junior Martha Hudson have C-USA Championship experience. The pair finished Tied for 38th last year with identical 251 scores for the 54-holes. Wilcox and the Blazers hope to improve on last year's eighth place finish in the tournament.
Wentworth, Deimling, Hudson, Ashlee Claydon and Krista Tressler will tee off for UAB in the event.
