Palo Alto, Calif. - The UAB synchronized swimming team heads out west to participate in the U.S. Collegiate Nationals, being held on the campus of Stanford in Palo Alto, Calif this weekend.
The Green and Gold has had recent success nationally, finishing in the top five the past three seasons. Head coach Lisa Riddell has built the Blazers into one of the nation's top programs, commandeering her girls to a fourth-place finish last year and a third-place mark in 2004. The third place in 2004 was the single highest finish at the U.S. Collegiate Nationals in UAB history.
The championships kick off on Thursday night, as the solo, duet and trio semifinal will take place. Friday will see competition in the "D" technical in the morning, with the afternoon showcasing the "C" technical events. "A" and "B" technicals will also take place during the afternoon session, before giving way on Friday evening to the team semifinal.
The final day of competition will see the trio, duet and solo finals take center stage in the morning portion of the event. Teams finals will then be swam after the early session is completed. The 2006 national champion will then be crowned as the final ceremonies take place.
