BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB women's basketball team is back in Bartow Arena for the third-consecutive contest, as it hosts Memphis Thursday at 7 p.m. The game will be the 36th meeting between UAB and the Lady Tigers and the second time this season. Memphis leads the series, 24-11 and had won four-consecutive meetings until the Blazers tallied a 61-58 victory in Memphis earlier this season.
The Blazers improved to 11-8 overall and 4-4 in C-USA action after beating Southern Miss and UCF last Friday and Sunday. Additionally, UAB is 9-3 in Bartow Arena. UAB is led by Carmen Guzman's 15.4 points and Christon Ingram's 5.9 rebounds a game.
UAB had six different players, including five non-starters, record double-digits en route to a 90-78 victory over UCF. The Blazers tallied 57 second-half points, the most in school history since a 60-point performance in the final 20 minutes in a 94-41 victory over South Alabama on Dec. 30, 1993. The UAB bench accounted for 65 points, including 47 in the second. On Friday, sophomore LaKitha Murray hit a jumper with less than a minute remaining in the contest to give UAB its first lead of the game and the Blazers held on to defeat Southern Miss, 73-70. Murray hit the bucket with :56 remaining to give UAB a lead, then stole the ball to set up a layup by Guzman for a three-point Blazer advantage. Murray tallied a career-best 15 points, including 10 in the final 20 minutes of action.
Memphis is currently 2-17 on the season and 0-8 in Conference USA action. The Lady Tigers come into the contest on an 11-game losing streak, having fallen to UCF and Southern Miss last weekend.
