BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB women's soccer team will host the 2005 Nike Classic this weekend at West Campus Field. The tournament will start on Friday with Tulane and Louisville in the first game of a double-header starting at 5 p.m. UAB and Kennesaw State will play the nightcap at 7 p.m.
The match-up between the Blazers and Fighting Owls will be the first time in school history. KSU enters its second year at the Division I level after previously playing in Division II. In 2003, the Owls dominated Division II in women's soccer winning the 2003 National Championship.
UAB (1-1-0) opened the season with a 3-0 victory at Jacksonville State last Friday night. The Blazers dominated the Gamecocks but fell to the No. 13 ranked Nebraska Cornhuskers on Sunday in Lincoln, 4-0.
With a victory this weekend UAB will record their 50th home win in school history. UAB will finish the Nike Classic on Sunday against Louisville at 2 p.m.
