BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The UAB football team had two full practices on Monday in shorts and helmets as it continued preparations for the Sept. 3 season opener at Tennessee. The conditions remained hot and humid, but the Blazers continued to work on special teams and team drills.
The Blazers continued to take advantage of the morning practice times in preparation for an early kickoff to start the season. The morning session was primarily focused on special teams. In the afternoon, UAB returned to the field for a complete workout. Monday's sessions were the first practices since the scrimmage on Saturday afternoon.
"In the scrimmage I thought all the receivers had a good day," said UAB head coach Watson Brown. "We were very pleased to see the young ones play so well. Some of those young guys are going to push the older guys. Some of these freshmen are going to get a shot. As for today, we got a lot of mental work and conditioning in."
UAB opens the season in Knoxville, Tenn., against Tennessee three Saturdays from now. The Blazers and Volunteers will play at Neyland Stadium at 12:30 ET/j11:30 CT, in a game that will be televised regionally on Jefferson Pilot Sports.
