BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The UAB women's tennis team travels to Auburn, Ala., Tuesday to take on Auburn at 2 p.m., as the two schools will be meeting on the court for the 10th time in history.
"Auburn has been a good rival for us," said UAB head coach Mert Ertunga. "They are always a tough opponent and I don't expect anything different on Tuesday. We have had several close matches in the series, most of them going Auburn's way. It will, no doubt, be a tough match for us, but not one that we cannot win."
The Blazers won four of six singles matches and swept all three doubles en route to a 5-2 victory over visiting Louisiana-Monroe in Birmingham on Sunday. UAB dropped singles matches in the top two spots in the lineup but then picked up victories at Nos. 3-6. Ornischa Maier-Knapp provided the clinching match with her 6-4, 7-5 win over ULM's Nataliya Ostrovska.
Auburn earned the doubles point and three individual victories on Saturday at the Luther Young Complex, as it defeated Furman, 4-3, to improve to 3-1 on the season. Jelena Jovic teamed with Sarah Suitor to win, 8-5, at the No. 2 doubles position and then was a 7-5, 6-2 winner in her No. 1 singles match. The Tigers hold a 7-2 advantage in the series, including a 7-0 victory in 2004.
