Blazers Place Third At Collegiate Championships

ANN ARBOR, Mich. - For the third consecutive season, the UAB synchronized swimming team notched a third-place finish at the U.S. Collegiate Synchronized Swimming Championships, held at the Canham Natatorium on the University of Michigan campus. The Blazers posted an overall score of 67.
Ohio State won the National Championship with an overall score of 95 and Stanford University placed second with a score of 90.
Sara Petrov grabbed a second-place national finish in the solo event for the Blazers, posting an overall score of 92.333. She teamed with Amanda Haeuser for a seventh-place national finish in the duet event, scoring an 88.333.
The UAB team of Haeuser, Petrov, Stacey Jackson, Stephanie Jackson, Stacy Leiker, Kara Morgan, Megan Kelly and Hallie Todd placed third nationally in the team event, scoring a 95.500. The Blazer squad of Karen Meyer, Andrea Dash, Vanessa Dash, Rebecca Johnson and Anne Christensen took seventh with a score of 88.333.
The trio event saw Stacey Jackson, Stephanie Jackson and Leiker grab a fifth-place national finish with a score of 89.167.
"I thought we had a great showing," said UAB head coach Lisa Riddell. "Our program continues to become better known and better respected as one of the top collegiate programs in the country. We will now have a chance to defeat some of the top teams again at the U.S. Nationals. We will hope to do as well this time around as we did last year."
UAB next travels to Stanford, Calif. to compete in the U.S. National Championships April 29-May 1. The Nationals represent the top synchronized swimming programs from all levels of competition.
The Blazers will be making their fifth consecutive appearance at the U.S. Nationals. The team recorded its highest finish to date at the event last season when it placed fourth.
