BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- Senior guard Morris Finley was named to the 2004 National Basketball Coaches Association (NABC) All-District Team. Finley was tabbed as a second-team performer from District VI, which now makes him eligible for the NABC's Division I All-America Team to be announced at the conclusion of the season.
"This is a great achievement for Mo and he is deserving of such an honor," Blazer head coach Mike Anderson said. "He is a tireless worker on the court and in the classroom and I am very happy that he is being honored for his dedication."
Finley, a native of Lafayette, Ala., is UAB's second-leading scorer, averaging 11.8 points per contest. He also leads the team in three-pointers made (37) and attempted (110). Finley was hampered by a shoulder injury early in the season which caused him miss three games, yet has the second-most points scored this season on the team (225). He is also averaging 1.8 rebounds and 1.6 steals per contest.
In all, six Conference USA men's basketball players were named to NABC All-District teams. Marquette's Travis Diener, Louisville's Francisco Garcia and Cincinnati's Jason Maxiell all garnered first team selections in their respective regions. Tony Bobbitt of Cincinnati and Antonio Burks of Memphis joined Finley in earning second team honors.
