UAB Women's Basketball Begins Conference Slate On The Road

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. ----- The UAB women's basketball team (6-7) begins its Conference USA schedule on the road, as it travels to North Carolina to take on East Carolina (9-4) on Friday, Jan. 9 at 7 p.m. and Charlotte (7-6) on Sunday, Jan. 11 at 2 p.m.
UAB is coming off of a 70-67 loss at Austin Peay on Saturday. The Lady Blazers had a chance to tie the game with 1.7 second left on the clock, but were unable to hit the three-pointer at the buzzer. Natasha Thomas had 17 second-half points and led UAB with 23 points and eight rebounds in the contest. Vanessa White tied her career high with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting. The loss snapped UAB's four-game win steak.
East Carolina moved to 9-4 overall after a 71-63 win at Murray State on Monday. The Lady Pirates are led by Courtney Willis' 18.1 points and 9.8 rebounds per game. ECU has won it's first two games of 2004, defeating Savannah State and Murray State. The Lady Pirates hold a 2-1 advantage in the all-time series and defeated UAB, 72-69, in their last meeting.
Charlotte has a 7-6 overall record, after falling to James Madison on Tuesday, 71-64. The 49ers are led by Pam Brown, who has a team-high 11.6 points and 5.5 rebounds per game. Charlotte is averaging 71.0 points per contest, despite hitting only 38.5 percent of its shots. UAB have a 13-10 advantage in the series history between the two schools; however, Charlotte beat the Lady Blazers, 77-56, in 2003.
