Women's Basketball Team Continues Road Swing

BIRMINGHAM, Ala.----- The UAB women's basketball team (2-4) takes to the road, traveling to Winston-Salem, N.C., to take on the Demon Deacons of Wake Forest (5-1) on Sunday, December 15, at noon (CT).
The Lady Blazers are coming off a second-place finish last weekend at the Mildred and Roger L. White Invitational hosted by Northwestern University in Evanston, Ill. UAB defeated Central Michigan, 59-44, before falling to Northwestern, 57-43, in the championship game. Michelle Smith, Chantell Thomas and Natasha Thomas were all named to the all-tournament team for the Lady Blazers.
Wake Forest improved to 5-1 after a 73-60 win over IUPUI on December 5. The Demon Deacons are led by Eafton Hill, a junior who averages 15.3 ppg and 7.2 rpg. Two other players are averaging double-figures in scoring for Wake Forest, junior Tonia Brown (14.7 ppg) and freshman Cotelia Bond-Young (12.3 ppg).

UAB next hosts the Lady Blazer Invitational from December 20-21. On Friday, December 20, the Lady Blazers play Troy State at 6 p.m., followed by Grambling State versus Eastern Kentucky at 8 p.m. On Saturday, December 21, the consolation game will be at 3 p.m., with the championship game starting at 5 p.m.
