Volleyball Falls At Tulane

NEW ORLEANS, La. - UAB (6-4, 0-2 Conference USA) fell to Tulane (7-5, 1-1 C-USA) 35-33, 30-24, 30-25 in Conference USA volleyball action at Fogelman Arena.
UAB jumped out to a commanding 19-9 lead in game one, and had Tulane on the ropes, holding game point at 29-25. The Green Wave then went on a 4-0 run to knot things up at 29-all. The two teams traded points for a while, but with score tied at 32, the Green Wave went on a 3-1 run to pull off the come-from-behind 35-33 win.
Game two was a back-and-forth battle early on, but with the game knotted at 15-15, Tulane rattled of six straight points to get a comfortable lead and win the game 30-24.
Game three followed a similar script as the two clubs traded points throughout the early goings. With the score tied at 11, the Green Wave took the lead on an attack error by the Blazers and never looked back.
Four Blazers finished with double-digit kill totals as sophomore outside hitter Martina Shields and sophomore middle blocker Karen Boyd each tallied 12 kills, followed by junior middle blocker/outside hitter Allison Magner and senior outside hitter Shelly Greene, who had 10 apiece. Greene led the Blazer defense with 13 digs and freshman setter Jessica Liptak added 46 assists.
Freshman outside hitter Anastasia Kenon led Tulane with 16 kills and a .400 hitting percentage. Freshman setter Katie Case had 38 assists for the Green Wave.
UAB next travels to Chicago to face C-USA rival DePaul Friday at 7 p.m.
