Women's Basketball Hosts Lady Blazer Classic Friday-Saturday.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Three in-state women's basketball teams will be featured in the annual Lady Blazer Classic this weekend at Bartow Arena. Friday, UAB (6-3) matches up with Samford (1-5) at 6 p.m. and Birmingham-Southern (5-4) squares off against Austin Peay at 8 p.m. Saturday, the consolation game will tip off at 3 p.m. and the championship game will follow at 5 p.m.
UAB is coming off a 97-78 victory over Davidson Sunday at Bartow Arena. The Lady Blazers have won two in a row and six of their last eight games.
UAB is led by the nation's leading scorer Deanna Jackson. The preseason Conference USA Player of the Year and All-American candidate is averaging 28.1 points per game and 13.7 rebounds per game. Jackson ranks second in the nation in rebounding average. She recorded her sixth double-double of the season against Davidson.
